My husband and I like to collect, restore, and sometimes sell vintage sewing machines. This one we found in a garage sale. It was dirty, didn't look like much, but most of the time you will find underneath the dirt, dust, and sometimes cobwebs, a treasure waiting to be found.
These machines are usually much higher quality machines than you can buy for the price range that is easily affordable. Often we find machines that someone got a tangled mess of thread in the bobbin area. I guess after the discouragement of a tangled mess of thread, they give up the attempt at sewing and put it away never to open it up again. (A good example of perseverance being sometimes more important than your skill.) If anything is worth doing, don't give up on it too easily.
This machine is a straight stitch/ zig zag machine. The brand is a Fleetwood,
all metal and heavy as a boat anchor.

Hi, thanks for stopping by at my blog. I have an old sewing machine that I bought last year. Not especially rare or anything, but in pretty good shape aesthetically. It needs work to run, (It is a treadle) but my husband thinks he can do it someday. Anyway, I laughed at the comparison of the feetwood to a boatanchor. I had one like that in high school.
ReplyDeleteYet another fun find! Good for you! I've been thinking of gardening tips for you - lots of water is really the biggie. You can make homemade traps for the slugs and snails. I think you put out shallow containers with beer in them, and the creatures drown! We always had a little trouble with this because our dog was very interested in the beer. There might be more info online. You could go out with a flashlight at night and handpick some of the snails. We had a lot of success growing basil; it seemed to like the sun. Hope gardening is going well for you!
ReplyDeleteI have this exact same sewing machine, in the base with the cover. I don't sew much but it's great for mending and I'm teaching my granddaughter how to sew on this machine! It's fairly straight-forward and easy for her to understand.
